A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a close final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
