Mandip Gill is an English actress of Punjab-Sikh ancestry, who is probably best known to the world as Phoebe McQueen in the TV drama series “Hollyoaks” (2012-2015), and most recently as Yasmin Khan in the very long-running TV adventure drama series “Doctor Who” (2018-2020), in addition to other characters and projects on which she has worked in her career.

Mandip Kaur Gill was born on the 5th January 1988, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England; from an early age, she has been interested in the performing arts, and would perform for her family in that way honing her acting skills, enjoying acting more each day. After high school, Mandip enrolled at the University of Central Lancashire, and in 2009 graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting. Furthermore, she attended Park Lane College, where she continued her education in the Performing Arts.
Career Beginnings
Before making her acting debut on screen, Mandip got her career start on stage, appearing in several plays through 2012, when she was selected for the part of Phoebe McQueen in the TV romantic drama series “Hollyoaks”. She portrayed Phoebe in more than 240 episodes of the award-winning series until 2015, during which she received a lot of positive reviews for her work time, and got the highly-needed experience for later.
In 2015 she left the show on her own terms, and her character was killed off, then continued very successfully in the next few years, including the part of Lauren in the TV series “Cuckoo” (2016), and then as Shazia Amin in the TV drama series “Doctors”.
Rise to Stardom
As she was becoming more experienced, new roles came Mandip’s way and in 2017 she portrayed Talia in the TV drama series “Love, Lies and Records” (2017), and also guest-starred in the TV series “The Good Karma Hospital” as Padma Kholi.
It was in 2018 that Mandip was cast in the role of her career so far, as Yasmine Khan in the TV series “Doctor Who”. She joined Jodie Whittaker as one of the main stars of the newest season of the show, and since joining has become a national star.
Most recently, Mandip featured in the drama film “The Flood” (2019) starring Lena Headey, Amira Ghazalla, and Jack Gordon. She is now working on several projects, including the animated comedy film “Spooky Jack”, and the romantic drama film “Snapshot Wedding” in which she will star alongside Anupam Kher, and Robert Hardy.
